The AMA has announced extensive changes in the CPT 2013 coding system, which will be released in September. The new 2013 edition includes:

·        Almost 600 code changes, affecting all medical specialties.

·    Extensive changes in the E/M, Surgery, Radiology, Pathology & Laboratory and Medicine sections.

·      18 modifiers have been revised

·       Almost 150 guidelines have been updated.

The bottom line...you must update your CPT coding reference for 2013 to maximize your reimbursement and minimize your audit liability.
